This began yesterday. It started with something like “hi i’m from Russia, do u have some free time to chat?”. That was it..mindless me, i answered and we started chatting. Age, pics, relationships. Microsoft has released 12 patches for 20 flaws discovered in its software. This includes 6 critical patches for the flaws that can lead to full compromise of the workstation, and 6 patches labeled as “important”. U can read the whole story over here.

Security researchers had discovered that both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer fail to securely handle keystrokes entered by the user. This affects v1.5 and v2.0 of Firefox and v5.0, v5.5, v6.0, v7 of IE. Looks like this flaw remained unfixed from the summer of 2006 and it’s a problem about how they designed the software. Although it’s the last one cause i got so many things to do with my professional part of my life, i had this great weekend. It started on saturday with some home barbecue and some red wine and continued on sunday with an outdoor barbecue on a place called “Valea Doftanei”. We found some quiet nice place, fire it up, and started getting condiments on the meat. After we finish our barbecue, and had some relaxation moments while listening to music coming out of my car speakers, we went to another place near the place we had that barbecue and we found some friend who were having barbecue. We couldn’t eat anything cause we were full..but had fun with them too. We got back home around 8 pm. ..oh..we as in me, a girl (…don’t have much to say about her, i mean..nothing bad, still..and ..i don’t know wether to call her friend or girlfriend; technically speaking she’s my friend for a long time, but we got bored of whatever fuckers we meet and she decided to meet more often.., ok ok, let’s say girlfriend, for now), my bro and his wife. So, we had a good time, good barbecue, long fucking way till we got home and lots of pics. I promise i’ll put some on here soon. As soon as i get the time to, i will..

Some interesting news from them..

1. Some people never learn. And this is what they get: ” The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs has reported the loss of an external hard drive containing personal information of up to 48,000 veterans.”. Damn, not again..!!

On Friday the Associated Press reported that a Veteran Affairs employee discovered the hard drive missing on January 22nd, believing it may have been stolen. Up to 20,000 of those records were not encrypted. A press release by the Department of Veteran Affairs indicates that an incident response team has been dispatched to investigate.

In 2006, the Department of Veteran Affairs admitted that a massive database containing personal information of up to 26.5 million veterans was stolen, prompting investigations by the FBI and the U.S. government.

Now, this is stupid. They even said they gonna encrypt laptop hard-drives, but now they have external hard-drives?..damn, ecrypt those too. That should be enough for now. Or, make some fucking rule: “every storage device must be encrypted”. (internal, external, whatever)

2. It was just discovered, the fifth flaw of office. This affects office 2000 and office 2003 for Windows, and office 2004 for Mac OS X. It’s good that i’m using office 2007 now. Office 2007 is not affected by this flaw.

Another critical flaw and zero-day exploit for Microsoft Office has been found, making it the fifth unpatched Office flaw since December 2006.

Late on Friday, Microsoft issued a security advisory confirming the vulnerability. The flaw, which affects all versions of Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, Office 2003, and Office 2004 for Mac OS X, is being actively exploited today with an Excel zero-day attack. An advisory by Secunia rates this vulnerability as “extremely critical.”

Microsoft warned that Excel is being actively exploited but only in “very limited” attacks. The company also warned that “other Office applications are potentially vulnerable.”

This flaw marks the fifth security issue for Microsoft Office since December 2006, where no patch is yet available. Most of these flaws have seen targeted “zero-day” exploit attacks in the wild, albeit in limited numbers.

Other flaws in the popular Office suite are also being actively exploited today in very limited, targeted attacks and have seen at least one Trojan horse (with very low infection rates, but a demonstration video from Symantec is available). Malicious documents exploiting the latest flaw and prior flaws may be received by users through e-mail or other means.

All Office users are cautioned against opening Microsoft Office documents until patches become available. Office 2007, released at the end of January 2007, is not affected by this latest flaw.

Prudent users may wish to use the free Open Office suite to open their Microsoft Office documents until Microsoft issues patches.

3. RIPE NCC root server had been DOS attacked. G and L servers failed to respond to 90% of queries. Here’s the report..

A denial-of-service attack apparently overwhelmed two of the thirteen root domain name servers early Tuesday morning, according to data collected by Internet infrastructure service RIPE NCC.

The attack caused the G and L servers to fail to respond to at least 90 percent of queries, according to the RIPE data. Two other root servers also appeared to have suffered from dropped traffic, and the Associated Press reported that a third server had been overwhelmed by the attack.

In 2002, a similar attack struck the thirteen domain name servers and seriously disrupted at least eight of the systems. Even that attack, however, failed to affect most Internet users, although it underscored that reliability and security were still problems for individual root servers. Last year, massive attacks on domain name servers took anti-spam service Blue Security off the Internet and eventually caused the business to cease its fight against spammers.

No one company or organization controls the thirteen servers. The two affected servers are managed by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers and the U.S. Department of Defense.

I know..it’s been almost a weeks since my last post. So..what have i been doing?…

Well..i got a car…Dacia Super Nova for people in Romania, and for the others there will be pics..I got new aluminium rims and new tires, SONY cd, some Pioneer speakers. I got all illumination fixed (cause they were some problems on the right side of the car). Now i have to make small investments for my car to work smoothly.

Last weekend i went to the mountains. Woke up at 12 pm with the idea of going to the mountains. So, went there with my friend. Long drive till i got there, but worth it. It was snowing when i got there, and was lots of snow on the ground. We broke our asses over there, then went to drink some hot tea and eat something. Then we got our ass home. Damn i hate night driving. Sometimes i can’t see shit, especially when some asshole is blinding me with his car lights…And, was a …nasty accident on the road when we got home. Some big bus hit a small car. It was so wrecked that i couldn’t identify the car, i mean the model. Anyway, was my first long drive with my car and i loved it.

Yesterday i went to the police to finish my papers for the car, so it will be my name on the papers and now i gotta wait 2 days for me to get them. So, today and tomorrow….no car, no drive, no music, no fun.. This weekend i wanna fix anything there is to fix to the car, and next weekend i wanna go to the mountains, yeah…i know,…again.. and i have 2 more free seats in my car. Anyone interested?…just kidding, all seats are sold out.

And that’s about it…still having this…kind of interesting friendship with a girl that i know for a long time, like..12 years…She’s the one who went to the mountains with me. It was fun. I can’t wait for the next weekend to come.

But, if u’re using IE6 and try to view this…well, it sucks, “bla bla” it’s gonna be 200px from the left side. Why?..First, microsoft SUCKS!! (but not directX ) Second, IE6 as i found on some google search, has some problems with margins on floated divs. So, how can u make it work?..it’s kinda easy..
